The latest term of the Green Accelerator Skills Programme (GRASP) is now underway, offering fully funded and accredited green skills training designed to save participants up to £1,200 while equipping the construction workforce across Northern Ireland and the border regions of Ireland with the expertise needed to meet Net Zero targets.
Led by South West College and supported by the PEACEPLUS programme, GRASP is delivered through an innovative cross-border partnership involving further education colleges, education and training boards, and Atlantic Technological University (ATU).
Running from January to March 2026, this term provides construction professionals with access to a diverse suite of specialist courses focused on sustainability, retrofit, energy efficiency, and low-carbon technologies. Training is delivered through a flexible hybrid model, blending online modules with hands-on sessions in specialist facilities to ensure both accessibility and practical, industry-aligned learning.
Highlighting the programme’s impact, Passive House lecturer and architect Gary Kelly said:
“Passive House skills are becoming essential as the demand grows for buildings that truly perform. The Designer and Tradesperson programmes are some of the most impactful courses I teach, giving learners practical, evidence-based knowledge they can immediately apply on site or in practice. It’s incredibly encouraging to see local professionals gain confidence and contribute directly to higher-quality, low-energy buildings across the region.”
By removing financial barriers and offering accredited training, GRASP enables individuals and businesses to respond to evolving regulatory and environmental demands while strengthening workforce capability across the construction industry. Courses span key areas including Sustainable Construction, Retrofit Skills, Heat Pump and Photovoltaic Systems, Building Information Modelling (BIM), Airtightness and Insulation, Environmental Management, and Passive House. Delivery is supported by a network of experienced providers across Northern Ireland and the border counties, ensuring training aligns with regional needs.
Developed in response to the growing need for a skilled, low-carbon workforce, GRASP plays a vital role in supporting economic resilience, industry readiness, and the transition to a more sustainable built environment.
