About this course

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery systems within domestic and small commercial buildings. Learners will explore why ventilation is essential for maintaining good indoor air quality, how different ventilation strategies function, and the role that airtightness plays in modern building design—particularly within new-build domestic construction.

Throughout the programme, students will gain an in-depth understanding of MVHR system components, how these systems operate, and the methods used to manage and control ventilation in a way that supports both comfort and energy efficiency. The course also examines how sensor-based controls influence performance and energy consumption, and how MVHR requirements align with recognised standards such as Passivhaus guidance and Building Regulations Technical Booklets F1, F2 and K.

By the end of the course, learners will have a clear understanding of the principles, purpose, and practicalities of domestic ventilation and heat recovery systems, along with the regulatory and best-practice frameworks that govern their use.
